GARDENING TIPS & ADVICE

By Ann Barrett

A garden is a plot of ground where herbs, fruits, flower or vegetables are cultivated. A rich, well cultivated region. A planting of textures, colors, heights and/or food groups that work together to make a place of beauty and abundance.

Each garden is unique to the gardener based on personal preferences, the natural principles of the growing climate, budget, patience, the amount of time the gardener is willing to put into the effort.

We are all looking at planting a new garden for our future. Tilling the soil, adding more organic matter, re-building and re-structuring our foundations  to ensure a healthier, more economically sound life for our families.

We must assess what really matters to us and plant seeds of hope and change, then nourish and protect them from predators.

        What makes us happy?
        What makes us smile?
What feeds our soul and our bodies?
        What can we do without?

How can we go beyond our daily comfort to make a difference to the planet?

RE-duce
RE-use
RE-cycle
RE-form!

Can we go past our self-important lives and materialistic tendencies?
To pick up the pieces of a society that has over-used and abused its
        Natural resources?

Where do each of us fit in to this new garden? And how can we help each other so that no one is buried in the dirt?

I, for one, will continue to support our local businesses while thinking globally. I will cut back, but not out – for that would leave a hole.

I will plant my little gardens of flowers and herbs for they nourish my heart and make me smile.

I will think to call family and friends.

Try to keep up-beat and remember – “This too shall pass.”

Change is inevitable and the current state of affairs is merely a blip in the grand season of history and time.

May your new garden flourish, the weather be on your side and your lives be filled with much more than the daily news!

EXPERIMENT, LISTEN, LEARN. . . FEEL, TOUCH, SMELL, LIVE.
It’s all ours!

See you when the snow melts and the crocus poke through for a new day.
